Q: Have other students had success with your audition tapes?
A: Other students have had success with applications to:
Indiana University Jacobs School of Music
Art of the Piano Master Class (Full Scholarship)
Chautauqua Piano Institute (Scholarship)
Domaine Forget International Music Festival
National Youth Orchestra of Canada
Alessi Seminar Asia
Q: I only have 20 minutes of music, do I really need two hours of recording time?
A: Regardless of how prepared or talented a musician is, they will usually want to do multiple takes during a recording. On average, I would account for 3-6 takes per piece. Musicians also need to take breaks between long pieces to regain their focus.
Q: When will I receive my files?
A: You will receive ready-to-upload files for each complete take within 24 hours.
Q: Will my location will work for an audition tape?
A: The location needs to be relatively quiet. The demo tape on the previous page was recorded in a second story apartment near the 405. General traffic isn’t an issue, but loud engines, sirens, and landscaping noises can interrupt a take.
Q: How can I prepare for my audition tape?
A: Recording is a different skill than performing for an audience, a lesson, or practicing by yourself. Everyone is a little nervous going into the session. The best way to prepare is by practicing recording yourself. At least once during your practice, record your entire piece with a phone and then listen back. Make notes on what you need to improve and then try again.
