Film Score

There are many factors that determine the best course of action when creating music for film. One must consider:

  • Budget

  • Deadline

  • Genre / Instrumentation

  • Scope / Total length

  • Intended playback medium (theater, streaming, mobile)

  • Balance between sound effects and music

  • The vision of your director

I view my role as helping the composer navigate these considerations. View an outline of a few different projects by following a link below.

This type of project is usually written in a DAW or notation software and then recorded as a separate step. The structure of the project is fairly similar for both orchestral scores, and those relying on instruments like electric guitars, organs, and drum kits.

Projects like these are built and refined in a DAW until they’re ready to be mixed. Writing and recording aren’t separate steps in most cases.

If your project is done being written and recorded, then it falls into this category. Things like timing and pitch can still be corrected, and the quality of the sound will be improved with a mix.
